What Are Broken Capillaries and Facial Veins?
The fine red or purple lines commonly called broken capillaries are often superficial dilated blood vessels known as telangiectasias. They frequently appear around the sides of the nose, cheeks, chin and other areas of the central face.
Some people have one or two clearly defined vessels. Others have diffuse background redness with dozens of tiny vessels that are difficult to distinguish individually. That difference matters because a full-field light treatment and a single-vessel treatment solve different problems.
Treatment does not “strengthen” every capillary or cure the underlying tendency to redness. Instead, selected light, laser or thermal energy is used to target visible vascular structures so they can become less noticeable over time.

What Kind of Facial Redness Do You Have?
“Redness” can describe several different vascular patterns. Knowing which pattern is present helps us choose a treatment that actually matches the target.
Broken Capillaries
Fine visible red or purple vessels, often most noticeable around the nose and upper cheeks.
Facial Spider Veins
A more obvious vessel or small branching network that may benefit from focused vascular laser or targeted thermal coagulation.
Diffuse Redness
Generalized pink or red tone across the cheeks, nose or face without one dominant vessel. IPL/BBL is often considered here.
Rosacea-Related Vessels
Rosacea can include persistent background redness, flushing and visible superficial vessels. The vascular component can be treated, while other rosacea symptoms may need medical management.
Cherry Angiomas
Small red vascular lesions are different from diffuse redness and can often be approached with highly targeted technology.
Flushing
Exercise, heat, alcohol, spicy foods, weather or emotional triggers can cause temporary flushing. Fixed visible vessels and transient flushing are not exactly the same treatment target.

The sides of the nose and upper cheeks are common locations for telangiectasias because superficial vessels can become more visible with genetics, chronic sun exposure, rosacea, aging and repeated flushing.
A few defined vessels around the nostrils may not require a full-face photofacial. Depending on size and depth, a targeted approach such as 1064 nm Nd:YAG or ThermoClear may make more sense.
If the nose and cheeks are red more generally and many tiny vessels are present together, IPL/BBL may be a better full-field option.

IPL / BBL Photofacial
IPL and BBL are especially useful when vascular redness is spread across a larger area rather than limited to one vessel. Light energy can be directed toward hemoglobin within superficial vessels while also addressing selected brown sun damage when both concerns are present.
Often considered for: diffuse cheek redness, many small superficial capillaries, rosacea-related visible vessels, redness plus brown photodamage.
Motus AY 1064 nm Nd:YAG + Moveo VL
Motus AY combines Alexandrite and Nd:YAG laser sources. For vascular work, the 1064 nm Nd:YAG wavelength provides a different depth and treatment profile from IPL/BBL.
DEKA's Moveo VL handpiece is specifically designed for vascular lesions and superficial vascular redness using contact-based, progressive energy delivery.
Often considered for: selected defined facial vessels, vascular targets that call for a 1064 nm approach and superficial redness appropriate for Moveo VL.
ThermoClear
ThermoClear uses radiofrequency thermal coagulation and is useful when the problem is extremely localized. One tiny capillary beside the nose or a small cherry angioma does not always justify treating the entire face with light.
Often considered for: very fine isolated capillaries, tiny superficial vascular imperfections and selected cherry angiomas.
DEKA Motus AY
1064 nm Nd:YAG + Moveo VL for Vascular Treatment
Motus AY uses two complementary laser wavelengths: 755 nm Alexandrite and 1064 nm Nd:YAG. DEKA identifies the 1064 nm Nd:YAG source for vascular applications and Moveo VL specifically for vascular lesions.
DEKA describes Moveo VL as acting directly on vascular lesions while reducing reflected energy through its contact-based Moveo technology. The company specifically highlights superficial vascular redness as a Moveo VL application.
This gives us another option when a patient needs something different from broad-spectrum IPL/BBL or point-by-point ThermoClear.

Rosacea-Related Redness
Treating Visible Vessels Is Not the Same as “Curing Rosacea”
Rosacea may include persistent central facial redness, flushing and visible telangiectasias. IPL/BBL and selected vascular laser treatments can be used to reduce the appearance of the vascular component.
Rosacea can also include sensitivity, papules, pustules and other inflammatory symptoms. Those concerns may require medical evaluation and a broader skin-care or prescription treatment plan.
Visible superficial vessels, persistent vascular redness and selected telangiectasias may improve with light or laser treatment.
What it does not automatically treatEvery inflammatory, ocular or medical component of rosacea. When symptoms extend beyond cosmetic vascular redness, medical management may also be appropriate.

How Does a Visible Vessel Become Less Noticeable?
The details depend on the technology, but the treatment goal is controlled energy absorption within the vascular target.

When Redness Is More Than Cosmetic

When the presentation does not look like a straightforward cosmetic vascular concern, medical evaluation may be recommended rather than simply applying more laser or light.
