Lumenis Legend Pro in Charlotte, NC

Two radiofrequency technologies. Two different layers of skin. TriPollar® RF focuses on non-invasive dermal heating and collagen remodeling, while TriFractional™ RF adds controlled fractional resurfacing for texture, fine lines and visible surface aging.

At Modern Skin Clinic, our Legend Pro treatments are built around the two modalities we actually offer: TriPollar and TriFractional. Each can be used on its own, or incorporated into a broader skin rejuvenation plan according to what your skin needs most.

TriPollar® RF TriFractional™ RF Skin Tightening Fine Lines Texture Refinement Collagen Remodeling

Lumenis Radiofrequency Platform

Tighten deeper. Resurface closer to the surface.

Legend Pro gives us two very different RF tools. TriPollar warms the dermis without needles or ablation. TriFractional creates controlled pinpoint RF resurfacing closer to the skin surface.

One Platform · Different RF Effects

What Is Lumenis Legend Pro?

Legend Pro is a radiofrequency-based skin treatment platform designed to work at different tissue levels. Instead of treating every concern with the same handpiece, the platform uses distinct RF technologies for dermal remodeling and fractional surface renewal.

TriPollar RF delivers focused radiofrequency energy into the dermis to create controlled heating associated with collagen remodeling and wrinkle treatment. TriFractional RF uses a superficial array of RF electrode pins to create pinpoint ablation plus controlled volumetric heating, stimulating a fractional wound-healing response and skin resurfacing.

This makes Legend Pro particularly useful when the treatment goal is not simply “more energy,” but selecting the right type of RF response for laxity, fine lines, texture or a combination of visible aging concerns.

The Two Legend Pro Treatments We Offer

TriPollar for Remodeling. TriFractional for Resurfacing.

They use the same RF platform but create very different treatment effects in the skin.

01

TriPollar® RF

Non-invasive focused radiofrequency that heats the dermis without needles or intentional surface ablation.

  • Collagen and elastin remodeling
  • Mild-to-moderate facial wrinkles and rhytids
  • Skin firmness and tightening support
  • Immediate tissue contraction plus gradual remodeling
  • Little to no social downtime for most patients
02

TriFractional™ RF

Superficial fractional radiofrequency resurfacing using pinpoint RF electrode ablation with controlled volumetric heating.

  • Skin texture refinement
  • Fine-line and wrinkle resurfacing
  • Controlled fractional renewal
  • More surface-focused than deeper RF microneedling
  • Some redness, roughness or pinpoint crusting can occur

Handpiece 01

TriPollar® RF: Non-Invasive Skin Tightening & Collagen Remodeling

TriPollar is the deeper, non-ablative side of Legend Pro. The technology uses three or more electrodes with rapidly changing polarity to create a concentrated RF field and more homogeneous heating within the tissue.

Lumenis uses a 1 MHz RF frequency for TriPollar. As tissue reaches the desired thermal endpoint, heat can cause immediate collagen contraction while also triggering fibroblast activity associated with longer-term collagen and elastin remodeling.

Because the epidermis is not intentionally ablated, TriPollar is the lower-downtime choice when the priority is firmness, mild-to-moderate wrinkles and collagen support rather than resurfacing visible texture.

What makes TriPollar different?
  • Focused 1 MHz radiofrequency
  • Three or more electrodes with rotating polarity
  • Controlled dermal heating
  • Real-time infrared temperature sensing on selected applicators
  • No needles and no intentional fractional ablation
  • Designed for wrinkle reduction and collagen remodeling

TriPollar Benefits

When the Goal Is Firmer, Smoother Skin Without Resurfacing

01 · Remodeling Collagen Support Controlled dermal heating stimulates fibroblast activity associated with new collagen and ongoing tissue remodeling.
02 · Firmness Skin Tightening Thermal contraction can create an immediate firmer appearance while collagen remodeling develops over time.
03 · Wrinkles Fine Lines + Rhytids Lumenis specifically positions TriPollar for mild-to-moderate facial wrinkles and rhytids.
04 · Comfort No Needles TriPollar heats tissue from the surface without needles or fractional pin ablation.
05 · Downtime Easy Recovery Temporary warmth or redness can occur, but social downtime is typically minimal with non-ablative TriPollar treatment.
06 · Maintenance Skin-Longevity Treatment TriPollar works well as a series and can also fit into a maintenance-focused collagen strategy.
7 × 7 fractional RF pin array

Lumenis lists the TriFractional H7X7 tip as a 7×7 array with 0.2 mm pins — a very superficial fractional resurfacing approach.

Handpiece 02

TriFractional™ RF: Texture, Fine Lines & Controlled Surface Renewal

TriFractional creates a very different effect from TriPollar. It uses contact radiofrequency and pinpoint electrode ablation to create fractional micro-treatment zones close to the skin surface, together with controlled volumetric heating.

These precisely spaced treatment points leave surrounding skin untreated, allowing the wound-healing response to support resurfacing, regeneration and visible texture refinement.

Lumenis describes TriFractional as more superficial than VoluDerm and specifically designed for texture improvement and refinement. It can involve more sensation and more visible recovery than non-invasive TriPollar because controlled fractional ablation is part of the treatment.

TriFractional Benefits

When Texture Needs More Than Heat Alone

01 · Surface Texture Refinement Fractional RF treatment creates controlled surface renewal designed to improve rough or uneven-looking texture.
02 · Lines Fine-Line Resurfacing Published Lumenis-referenced clinical research supports TriFractional treatment for facial wrinkles.
03 · Renewal Fractional Wound Healing Pinpoint treatment zones trigger a controlled healing response while leaving surrounding tissue available to support recovery.
04 · RF Heat + Ablation The treatment combines superficial point ablation with controlled volumetric RF heating instead of relying on exfoliation alone.
05 · Precision Fractional Delivery Energy is delivered in a patterned array rather than creating uniform ablation across the entire surface.
06 · Layer Choice More Surface-Focused TriFractional is especially useful when visible texture and surface quality are higher priorities than deeper needle-based remodeling.

Same Platform · Different Treatment Goals

Clinical Evidence Behind the Technologies

These numbers come from studies cited by Lumenis and are included for context rather than as a guarantee of an individual result.

49%

Average Increase in Dermal Thickness

On its Legend Pro+ technology page, Lumenis cites the Kaplan & Gat clinical and histopathological TriPollar study and reports an average 49% increase in dermal thickness in the study population.

4.8 → 3.4

Average Fitzpatrick Wrinkle Score

Lumenis cites the Gold & Adelglass TriFractional study in which blinded evaluators reported an average Fitzpatrick Wrinkle Score decrease from 4.8 at baseline to 3.4 at three-month follow-up.

Clinical study populations, protocols and treatment parameters may differ from your individual treatment plan. Results vary by age, tissue quality, treatment intensity, number of sessions and biological response.

What Treatment Feels Like

TriPollar and TriFractional Do Not Feel — or Heal — the Same

01

Assessment

We decide whether your priority is deeper firmness, surface texture, or a plan that addresses both over time.

02

TriPollar

Treatment feels progressively warm as RF energy raises tissue temperature. Numbing is generally unnecessary.

03

TriFractional

Fractional RF feels sharper and can produce temporary redness, warmth, roughness or tiny crusted treatment points.

04

Remodeling

Some change can be visible early, while collagen remodeling and texture improvement continue over the weeks that follow.

A Common Charlotte Search

Legend Pro TriFractional vs. Virtue RF Microneedling

Both use radiofrequency, but they should not be described as the same treatment.

TriFractional is a superficial fractional RF resurfacing treatment using short RF pins and pinpoint ablation near the surface. Virtue RF Microneedling inserts needles to selected depths and delivers RF energy into deeper tissue.

That means TriFractional may make more sense when the priority is surface texture and fine-line resurfacing, while Virtue can be a stronger choice when deeper RF microneedling and tissue remodeling are the treatment goal.

Two RF categories — not duplicates

TriFractional: superficial fractional RF electrode resurfacing.

Virtue RF: needle-based RF microneedling with adjustable treatment depth.

TriPollar: non-invasive RF heating without needles or fractional ablation.

Personalized RF Planning

One Device Does Not Mean One Protocol

Can TriPollar and TriFractional Be Used Together?

They can be used separately or incorporated into the same overall skin-rejuvenation plan because they target different treatment goals. TriPollar emphasizes deeper non-invasive thermal remodeling, while TriFractional emphasizes fractional surface renewal.

That does not mean both should automatically be performed at maximum intensity in the same visit. Treatment sequencing depends on your skin condition, sensitivity, recovery tolerance and the degree of correction desired.

Some patients may benefit from a TriPollar-focused tightening series, some from a shorter TriFractional resurfacing series, and others from a staged plan that uses both technologies at different points.

Who May Be a Candidate?

Legend Pro May Be Considered For

  • Mild-to-moderate facial wrinkles
  • Early loss of firmness
  • Fine lines and visible surface aging
  • Uneven or rough-looking texture
  • Patients wanting an RF option without laser wavelengths
  • People interested in staged collagen-maintenance treatments

Safety First

Important RF Contraindications

Lumenis lists pacemakers, defibrillators, implanted electronic devices and metal implants in the treatment area among Legend Pro contraindications.

Potential temporary or less-common adverse effects can include redness, swelling, pain, bruising, itching, pigment change, blister/burn, scarring or temporary breakouts. Your medical history, medications, implants and skin condition are reviewed before treatment.

Experience Behind the Technology

The Benefit of Having More Than One RF Option

Nina Crytser has worked in medical aesthetics since 2003 and uses multiple approaches to collagen remodeling and resurfacing, including Legend Pro TriPollar, Legend Pro TriFractional, Virtue RF Microneedling, SkinPen and fractional laser technologies.

That matters because “RF treatment” is not one thing. Non-invasive dermal heating, superficial fractional RF resurfacing and deeper RF microneedling create different effects in different tissue layers.

“The question isn't whether radiofrequency works. The question is which type of RF response makes sense for the layer of skin we want to change.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Lumenis Legend Pro FAQs

What is Lumenis Legend Pro?
Legend Pro is a radiofrequency-based aesthetic platform with different technologies for skin remodeling and resurfacing. At Modern Skin Clinic, we offer TriPollar RF and TriFractional RF.
What does TriPollar RF do?
TriPollar uses focused radiofrequency energy to create controlled dermal heating. It is designed for collagen remodeling and treatment of mild-to-moderate facial wrinkles and rhytids without needles or intentional surface ablation.
What does TriFractional RF do?
TriFractional uses contact RF electrode pins to create pinpoint fractional ablation with controlled volumetric heating. Lumenis positions it for skin resurfacing, texture improvement and refinement as well as wrinkle treatment.
Is TriFractional the same as RF microneedling?
No. TriFractional is a superficial fractional RF resurfacing treatment using a short RF pin array. RF microneedling systems such as Virtue insert needles to selected depths and deliver RF energy deeper in the tissue.
Is TriPollar good for skin tightening?
TriPollar is designed to create focused dermal RF heating associated with collagen remodeling, wrinkle treatment and a firmer appearance. It is the non-invasive tightening-focused modality on the Legend Pro platform.
Does TriPollar require numbing?
TriPollar is non-invasive and usually feels progressively warm. Numbing is generally unnecessary. Comfort and treatment intensity are monitored throughout the session.
Does TriFractional have downtime?
TriFractional creates controlled fractional surface ablation, so it generally has more visible recovery than TriPollar. Temporary redness, warmth, roughness or pinpoint crusting can occur depending on treatment intensity and individual healing response.
Which is better: TriPollar or TriFractional?
Neither is universally better. TriPollar makes more sense when deeper firmness, mild wrinkles and low downtime are priorities. TriFractional makes more sense when surface texture, fine lines and fractional resurfacing are higher priorities.
Can TriPollar and TriFractional be used in the same treatment plan?
Yes. Because they create different RF effects, both can be included in an individualized treatment plan. The timing and intensity are selected according to skin condition and recovery tolerance rather than automatically performing both at maximum intensity.
How many Legend Pro treatments do I need?
Treatment number varies by modality, concern, settings and response. TriPollar is commonly performed as a series for remodeling, while TriFractional may require fewer but more intensive resurfacing sessions. Your plan is individualized after skin assessment.
Is Legend Pro safe for darker skin tones?
Radiofrequency does not target melanin the way many lasers do, which makes RF useful across a broad range of skin tones. Treatment settings, skin history and risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation still need to be assessed individually.
What is better: Legend Pro or Virtue RF?
It depends on the target. Legend Pro TriPollar provides non-invasive RF heating, TriFractional provides superficial fractional RF resurfacing, and Virtue uses needle-based RF microneedling for deeper adjustable treatment. They are complementary rather than identical.
Where can I get Legend Pro near Ballantyne or Waverly?
Modern Skin Clinic is located at 11030 Golf Links Drive in South Charlotte, convenient to Ballantyne, Waverly, Rea Farms, Blakeney, Matthews and surrounding Charlotte communities.

Felt Heard for the First Time

When you consult an expert about any issue, it is not just the technical knowledge that matters. The philosophy of practice guides the selection of methods and products. Nina is a good example of an artisan who approaches any issue at hand with a holistic approach that is not limited to topical manipulation but rather encourages overall wellness. She is most attentive to what you seek as well as the limitations of products and technologies you are willing to use. A delight to have an intelligent conversation with, particularly, if you come from a practical clinical background.

I had laser hair removal with Nina about ten years ago. I remember being extremely nervous, but ended up having the best experience. I am so happy with the hair removal results, never shaved again! Since then, I keep coming back to Nina for other beauty services and loving the results! I cannot thank Nina enough for her professionalism, best suggestions, attention to detail, and personalized approach to all my requests. I have been recommending Nina to friends and family and always receiving bunch of thanks. Most recently, had a first session of IPL laser and RF microneedling, and just finished the recovery. Loving the results! Can’t wait for next session!

    Skin Care Services

I've always assumed I'd have to endure acne issues for the rest of my life. I'm in my early twenties and have had terrible acne for as long as I can remember. I've gone to every dermatologist in Charlotte, and after just one treatment with Nina, I began to see results. My skin has been a never-ending battle up until I started going here. It's affordable (I'm job hunting and can still manage coming here once a month), and it works like magic. I've had tiny acne bumps and constant painful breakouts all over my face for as long as I can remember, and not one doctor has been able to alleviate them or make them go away altogether. Nina can take each patient and customize their treatments, so there's a guarantee there are results. I wear my hair back and haven't touched my makeup drawer since my first treatment.
