Sciton BroadBand Light

What is a BBL Photofacial?

BBL stands for BroadBand Light. It is a light-based photorejuvenation treatment that delivers selected wavelengths of light into the skin to target visible pigmentation and vascular discoloration.

Light absorbed by melanin can be used to address selected brown pigmentation, while light absorbed by hemoglobin can be used to target visible vascular redness.

BBL isn't about making the skin look different. It's about making accumulated damage less visible.

Because sun damage frequently contains both brown pigment and vascular redness, treatment can be customized according to what is actually visible in the skin.

What can BBL treat?

What are you trying to clear?

BBL is frequently chosen when the complexion shows visible evidence of sun exposure, pigment irregularity or vascular color.

01

Sun Spots & Age Spots

Selected brown pigmentation related to accumulated ultraviolet exposure.

02

Facial Redness

Diffuse vascular discoloration and visible flushing that contribute to an uneven complexion.

03

Broken Capillaries

Selected superficial facial vessels and visible capillaries.

04

Uneven Skin Tone

Combined red and brown discoloration associated with photodamage.

Pigment correction

BBL for Sun Spots, Age Spots & Pigmentation

Sun exposure can leave behind areas of visible brown pigment that may become more apparent with age.

BBL light can be directed toward selected melanin-containing pigment so that unwanted brown discoloration becomes progressively less visible.

Common treatment areas include the face, neck, chest and hands — areas where cumulative UV exposure often becomes apparent.

01
Sun spots

Selected areas of UV-related brown discoloration.

02
Age spots

Brown pigmentation that becomes increasingly noticeable with cumulative sun exposure.

03
Freckles & uneven pigmentation

Selected superficial brown pigmentation can contribute to uneven-looking skin.

04
Photodamage

BBL can address combinations of pigment and vascular color created by years of sun exposure.

Vascular concerns

BBL for Redness & Broken Capillaries

FACIAL REDNESS

Redness doesn't always come from pigment.

Visible redness can result from superficial vascular structures within the skin. BBL settings can be selected to target vascular color when appropriate.

Treatment may be considered for diffuse facial redness and selected redness associated with visible vascular changes.

VISIBLE VESSELS

Broken capillaries & facial veins

Selected superficial facial vessels may respond to BroadBand Light when the wavelength and treatment settings are appropriate for the vascular target.

Vessel depth, size and location influence whether BBL or another vascular technology is the better choice.

The BBL experience

What to expect from your BBL Photofacial

01

Skin Evaluation

Pigmentation, vascular changes, skin type, treatment history and recent sun exposure are reviewed.

02

Customized Treatment

BBL settings and filters are selected according to the color and treatment target.

03

Early Response

Temporary warmth and redness may occur. Treated brown spots can temporarily darken.

04

Progressive Clearing

Pigment and vascular discoloration gradually become less visible as the skin responds to treatment.

Is BBL right for your skin?
Treatment selection

Good candidates start with the right target.

BBL is not appropriate for every type of pigmentation or every skin condition. Treatment begins by identifying what is creating the visible discoloration.

01 Visible sun spots, age spots or freckles
02 Diffuse facial redness or selected visible vessels
03 Red and brown photodamage
04 Uneven skin tone associated with sun exposure
05 No recent significant tanning or excessive sun exposure
BBL is powerful because it can be customized. That makes treatment judgment even more important.

Nina evaluates visible pigmentation, redness, vascular changes, skin sensitivity, previous treatments and sun exposure before determining how a BBL treatment should be approached.

Her philosophy is simple: the machine should not determine the treatment. The condition of the skin should.

Identify the target. Select the technology. Treat the skin in front of you.

questions

What does a BBL Photofacial treat?

BBL can be used for selected sun-related pigmentation, brown spots, age spots, freckles, facial redness, visible superficial vessels and uneven skin tone.

Is BBL a laser?

BBL is BroadBand Light technology rather than a traditional single-wavelength laser. It uses selected ranges of light for pigment and vascular targets.

Does BBL help sun spots and age spots?

Selected melanin-containing brown pigmentation related to sun exposure can respond to BBL treatment.

Can BBL treat broken capillaries?

Certain superficial facial vessels may respond to BBL. Vessel depth, size and location influence treatment selection.

Why do brown spots look darker after BBL?

Treated pigmentation can temporarily darken before becoming less noticeable during the skin's normal renewal process.

What is the downtime after BBL?

Recovery varies by treatment intensity and target. Temporary warmth, redness and darkening of treated pigmentation may occur.

How many BBL treatments will I need?

Treatment number varies according to the amount of pigmentation, vascular discoloration and individual skin response. A series may be recommended for more extensive photodamage.

Is BBL better than IPL?

Neither technology is automatically better for every patient. BBL and Stellar M22 IPL offer different treatment options, and the best choice depends on the target and individual skin.

Can I have BBL after recent sun exposure?

Recent tanning or significant sun exposure can increase treatment risk and may require BBL to be postponed.
